Some angels

I will not lie, I've always wanted to draw these guys with wings since day one, hahaha... I'm not too happy with a lot of things, especially the colours, which are all over the place. It's too obvious that I abused the layer effects. Gotta try getting colours looking right without relying on Overlay all the time.

Do yourselves a favour and read this gorgeous online graphic novel. It's so beautiful and professional and I want the whole story right now!

Happy 2011!

Hey guys! Happy new year. I'm not very satisfied with my artwork from last year, so I've a few art-related resolutions I hope to keep:

1. Focus on shapes and keeping things simple. Be less stiff!
2. Practice colouring more. Everyday, if possible.
3. Idea before execution!
4. Draw regularly in the Moleskines I got for Christmas(I got 4!).

The last one is there because I am absolutely terrified of defacing new sketchbooks. I've never owned a Moleskine before this either, so the pressure is doubled!

Here are some artworks I did since the new year.

Lucifel and Enoch from El Shaddai!

I also drew some dinosaurs, for no particular reason other than being in the mood to draw dinosaurs.

By the way, Bill Watterson draws the best dinosaurs. =)

Doujinshi talk!

Post CF, I feel obliged to talk a bit about my El Shaddai book. When I got the books from the printer, the first thing I noticed was the colours on the cover looked washed-out. I liked the stark black of the printing which goes well with my high-contrast linework, but... I don't think I'll be using that printer again. That was a big disappointment for me as the cover was what I liked most about the book.

About the conception of this book... it was originally intended to be a phrasebook of sorts, explaining the terms and in-jokes born of the MADs on NicoVideo. In the end, only a few pages were created from that initial idea. The main reason being: I'm not good with words, I couldn't come up explanations that were interesting enough. The idea was scrapped and the rest of the book was born at the last minute.

I was pleasantly surprised at the response, though. It's always nice meeting other fans of what you could call a niche fandom. There were people pointing and laughing at the drawing I made advertising the price, and some guy was explaining to his friend what the game was about in front of the booth. There was even a group of siblings(? I assume) who were just so excited/tickled to see a ES book. Amongst them was a little kid of about 10? And he was just as excited to see the book. At that point, I was thinking, 'Is it really OK to let this little kid read this', but in the end they bought a copy and even asked me to draw something in it, so...

... no problem, everything's fine?

If you bought a copy, thank you very much. Please feel free to let me know what you liked/disliked about the book!

Fanbook site live!

It's almost been a month since my last update... I was busy working on the copybon, and I'm proud to announce its completion! Hooray! It's also been updated with a fancy new coloured cover. By a stroke of luck, I did the B&W cover in the wrong size, so I decided to make a new one instead, and I'm glad for it!

I like the new cover so much better. While I was at it, I also got a promo site up with some previews. Please click the banner for further info.

To answer some of the previous comments, there are no plans to sell this online at the moment, it all depends on the demand. If you'd be interested in purchasing a copy online, please leave a comment here, and help spread the word if you can. Thank you!

Daijoubuda, mondainai!

Finally... some art! I'll be selling a El Shaddai copybon at Comic Fiesta this year. I've only just done the cover, but I still have a month or so to go so I need to draw fast! It was a last minute decision, but I just had to.

First post!

I've actually had this thing for a while now but I never felt ready to use it as my primary artblog. I always felt ashamed that I had nothing but lazy doodles to show. Now that I've made the big move, however, I suppose I should work at improving the quality of my artwork so I wouldn't feel this way. Welcome to my new artblog!
